From an early age humans tend to concentrate on the
negative… Your day will often be defined by what went wrong, some person who
irritated you, snow, rain, hot or a million other things. We don’t seem to have the ability to take
everything in a given day and mathematically determine whether there was more
good than bad and let that be our reference point to judge out day.
Traveling along the highway and gazing out the window you watch fence posts or telephone poles go whizzing by… but the only one you see is the one that is different. Your brain only sees the one that is abnormal. I don’t know why we are wired this way but we do have a propensity to dwell on the negative in life.
It is easier to pick at someone faults and
not recognize all the good things that she/he has done. Recognizing that it is a weakness and resisting
the urge to let a negative events determine how you assess your day is a big step. Recognizing that life is mostly good, appreciating these times and trying not to let the occasional crooked or misshaped fence post ruin your day.
